Gold Coast Arts Association Announces

A Fundraiser Cabaret to Support the Young Artists Ensemble
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun is an all female cabaret, supported by Gold Coast Arts Association, and a Fundraiser for Young Artist Ensemble.
Rehearsals will start on September 20th through October 1st, with one performance on October 2nd. Audition Submissions due by Friday, Sept 17, 2021.
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun is an all female cabaret. The show will have 10 cast members and will run an hour long, with no intermission. The songs will be framed around the female character's objective that doesn’t relate to the man in the show. The female Ingénue stereotype has been a staple in American musical theatre. She’s kind and beautiful, and her main objective in the show is her love interest. (Think of any Rodgers and Hammerstein show.) Marion the librarian in the Music Man is iconically known as the most progressive and aggressive of the golden age ingénues. However, if you go back and look at all of her songs and what they’re about, they’re all about finding a love interest. For example, “Goodnight my Someone”, “My White Knight '', “Till There Was You”. Those are the only songs she sings in the show. The songs you will hear in this cabaret will be solely about finding yourself and longing for new experiences in life. In this new post-pandemic world, the audience should be reminded about the freedom, hope, and choice women have now, and just how beautiful that is.
