An old man tells the stories of a young boy who grew up in one of the last existing and largest Ranchos of the California Spanish Land Grant Era.
Through personal, anecdotal stories sprinkled with kernels of truth, Larry Janss traces the history of the Conejo Valley from the days of the Mastodon to the present, visiting along the way, the Chumash, Señor Cortez, Gaspar de Portolá, Junípero Serra, José de la Guerra y Noriega, the Janss Family, long-horn cattle, hogs, rattle snakes, movies … through to the development of the city of Thousand Oaks.
